Elder Nash Shares Importance of Fortifying Families Through The Scriptures

Elder Marcus B. Nash, General Authority Seventy of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, together with Sister Shelley Nash, inspired Butuanon members in a devotional held in Butuan City, Philippines, on May 14, 2022.

They were joined by Danilo Baligod, president of the Philippines Butuan Mission, his wife Sister Elizabeth Baligod, and Romualdo Bigornia, president of the Butuan Stake (Diocese).

Hundreds attended the devotional and were inspired by the messages that were shared. These messages focused on developing Christlike attributes and fortifying families through the scriptures.

President Romualdo Bigornia said, “It is my hope and prayer that we may continue to be missionaries, not because the Lord needs us to help Him but rather that it is our way to develop Christlike attributes.”

President Danilo Baligod addressed how we can strengthen families through the blessings of the gospel. He said, “We have faced many challenges because of the pandemic. Many of us lost our jobs and businesses, and many have suffered. Aside from that, when typhoon Odette struck the country, many lost their homes and loved ones. These are just a part of what the Lord said will happen before He comes. We must prioritize preparing spiritually by intently studying the scriptures for us to fortify our families.”

Sister Nash talked about 1 Nephi 14:4 and how this verse taught about becoming covenant people of the Lord. Her talk reminded the youth that we make specific promises when we make a covenant.

The Story of David and Goliath

Elder Nash recounted the story of David and how he won against Goliath. He emphasized how David thinks differently than others and has relied on the strength given by God.

“Let’s think for a moment. Goliath was a giant of a man, a human tank. Do you face any Goliaths in your life? [Like David], the Lord knows your name, worries, pain, happiness, and loves you with a perfect love,” he said, inviting all to follow the Savior and keep His commandments.
